I have been writing for years, since I was in middle school. My writing grew as I did. My first novels were about young girls in high school. They were in no way a parallel to my life because it was about violence and teenage pregnancy. Since I didn't know much about either subject, those novels were not the greatest. Then, I branched out into poetry. I was horrible at it. I had too much to say to cram into a poem. One page wasn't enough, I needed at least 250.
As I grew into adulthood, my style of writing changed drastically. It became more real, more adult. I discovered that I had a supreme knack for writing erotica. I chose to write in the voice of strong black women who were not afraid of their sexuality. Women who learned what joy sex could bring if they weren't held back by the imaginary lines society constantly drew around them. Women who were not afraid to speak their minds about whether or not they were being satisfied. The short stories I write are "just for fun" type of stories. Kind of like quickies. The novels I write have purpose. There is always a lesson learned even if it's not what society expects the lesson to be. The lesson may not be to make the reader or other characters in the book happy. The goal is for the main character to be happy.
I am hoping to be published one day so that I can spend my life writing full time.
